PORCELAIN CROWN

Porcelain Crown

Porcelain dental crowns (popularly known as porcelain veneers) are a procedure that is often misunderstood by everyone (and nobody likes). It is misunderstood because sometimes the dentist does not explain the crowns very well. It is not liked because it is an expensive operation and insurance companies generally do not cover most of the cost.

What is Porcelain Crown?

Porcelain crown is a permanent coating for teeth. It varies according to the materials used for coating, the most commonly used ones today are: "metal - porcelain" and "full ceramic" ones. All these different coatings have advantages and disadvantages.

Porcelain reinforced with metal are the most popular; It is strong and aesthetic as the metal below is covered with porcelain from the upper part, but an opaque dye used to cover the metal makes this porcelain look more saturated, which affects the natural light transmittance of the porcelain, lastly, it is cost-effective and its production is standardized. The biggest disadvantage is that the metal under it is sometimes visible and it causes the gingiva to take a dark (black) color.

Full porcelain or ceramic coating also looks good, but may not be as durable as metal-backed porcelain (especially with very long prostheses). Still, many people consider this to be the best choice - especially for the front teeth. These also have alternatives among themselves in terms of material.
